Clare Midtown
Three years ago, Clare Housing purchased property in the Corcoran neighborhood, near the Lake Street Hiawatha Light Rail Station, to create 45 units of supportive housing for people living with HIV/AIDS, with a targeted emphasis on individuals who are very poor, have experienced homelessness, long-term homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. Federal funding is fully complete and construction will begin in May 2010 with an opening in early 2011.
Located within walking distance of retail outlets, human service providers and public transportation, the site is ideal for our clients, staff and volunteers and the project has strong support from the Corcoran neighborhood in which it is located.
Once completed, Clare Midtown will serve 45-50 people each year, providing:
- 45 units of safe, affordable housing and supportive and services for people living with HIV/AIDS, including at least eight units for persons who have experienced long-term homelessness and eleven units for persons at risk of homelessness.
- Assisted living services (hands on assistance with activities of daily living, building independent living skills) for approximately 15-17 individuals who need this level of support.
- Nursing services, including care and medication administration.
- 24/7 front desk security.
- A resident services coordinator to provide information, support, referrals and advocacy.
- Special features- healing gardens, water features, natural light, space to socialize and welcome guests - providing a sense of warmth and beauty, allowing residents to live fully no matter where their journey with HIV takes them.
Just like the residents of Clare Apartments, those living in Clare Midtown will be at different places in their journey with HIV/AIDS, some needing intensive care, some working and paying rent, and others living at various stages of independence with varying need for support.
