Otto Bremer Awards Clare Housing $100,000 Grant —

Otto Bremer Trust LogoWe would like to thank the Otto Bremer Trust for entrusting Clare Housing with a $100,000 grant for general operating support to provide supportive, affordable housing programs for low-income and unstably-housed individuals and families affected by HIV in Minnesota.

The mission of the Otto Bremer Trust is to invest in people, places and opportunities in the upper Midwest. We are thankful for this opportunity to partner with the Trust to further the missions of both organizations. You can learn more about the Trust on its website.

Clare Housing is the only organization in Minnesota whose sole mission is dedicated to advancing programs and new solutions to address the full-continuum of HIV-related housing needs in our community and ending homelessness among individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Since its inception in 1987, Clare Housing has remained true to our roots and continues to focus on what we do best – developing and providing affordable, supportive housing. In nearly three decades our organization has grown from one residence serving four people to developing, owning, and/or managing eight residential programs serving more than 200 people every year.

Housing = Healthcare. There is tremendous evidence demonstrating that supportive housing is a critical aspect of care for people living with HIV/AIDS. As reported by the National AIDS Housing Coalition, housing supports have a direct impact on improved health outcomes for the homeless population living with HIV.

In our most recently completed fiscal year, Clare Housing achieved multiple milestones: 100% of our residents were linked to care, 95% were retained in care, and 89% had an undetectable amount of HIV in their bloodstream (compared to 63% in Minnesota and 30% in nationally). By providing housing assistance and improving the health of people with HIV we can dramatically increase an individual’s ability for full civic and social participation in the community.

Clare Housing celebrates 30 years of service in 2017 and our newest facility, Marshall Flats opens in the summer of 2017. $50,000 of this award will be granted to Clare Housing, and another $50,000 is contingent upon raising matching dollars.
