Alma Boric returns to Clare Housing as a Registered Nurse —

Clare Housing is having the best luck, lately.  Why? Because several of our newest team members are former staff we’re welcoming back!  Alma Boric (she/her) was a caregiver for the better part of a decade and is back now as a Registered Nurse!

Alma Boric, RN

Tell us a little about your history at Clare – when did you start? What initially attracted you to working here?

My initial encounter with Clare Housing was actually fairly uninspired. I needed a job and I happened to be doing some housework on Agape Dos’ roof when I ran into Angela North and asked for a job! I’m super glad I did, because Clare Housing ended up informing and shaping my 20s in a permanent and significant way. I fell in love with caregiving, everything about it. I loved making and sharing delicious meals with my residents, I relished a thoroughly cleaned suite, I was delighted to help residents take control of their health and their life in any capacity, and I was honored to be able to sit beside those who had entrusted all of us in their care on their final days earthside.

For all of those reasons and more, I decided caregiving was something I wanted to pursue more deeply, and I began my nursing school journey and career all while working at the care homes over the next 7.5 years. My goal was to join the Clare nursing team upon graduation but there weren’t any positions available in 2019, so I moved on to pediatric nursing and bounced around in a few different roles before fate pulled me back into Clare life a few short years later!

After some time in the ‘big corporate hospital’ setting, I was elated to see Clare Housing looking for a full-time nurse. I missed the style of care Clare Housing valued – individualized, well rounded, deliberate – in contrast to the fast paced and more task-oriented nursing I was trained to provide years prior. Luckily for me, Clare Housing was willing to give this very pregnant and thankful RN a chance and I’m so very grateful to be back!

What are you most excited about in your new role?

Although the majority of my nursing experience is in pediatrics, I would say the experience I gained as a caregiver at Clare Housing was invaluable. I will be leaning heavily on that to inform my new role moving forward. Specifically, my overall bedside manner and psychosocial understanding of the population Clare Housing serves will be important skills to be utilized and factors to take in when creating care plans, performing assessments, and providing person-centered care.

What personal values to you hope to bring into your new role?

A few personal values I hope to bring forward in my new role include a hearty sense of humor, a deep compassion for anyone and anything in need of support, kindness and guidance, and an appreciation for community both amongst the residents and coworkers at Clare Housing!

Tell us a surprising fact about you – or what you like to do in your free time.

A fun fact about me is that last fall, I accidentally made rock-climbing my identity. I have since traveled to various places in Minnesota, South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana to outdoor lead and top rope climb! It has been an adventure that has tested me both physically and mentally and exposed me to some of the most beautiful landscapes and views I perhaps never would have witnessed otherwise!

We are glad to have you back on the team, Alma, and we are grateful for the depth of experience and knowledge you bring with you to the position!
