Meet Amelious Whyte

Amelious N. Whyte, Jr., is originally from Brooklyn, NY, and currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Public Engagement for the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota.

Addressing HIV/AIDS has long been an interest for Amelious, ever since he worked on a project in 1990 for the NYC Board of Education that recommended distributing condoms in NYC public schools, which was eventually implemented. Prior to joining Clare’s board Amelious raised approximately $15,000 over three years for the Minneapolis AIDS Walk. Among the achievements he’s most proud of while serving on Clare’s board is being a member of the search committee that recommended hiring our current Executive Director and helping to recruit great board members to Clare while serving as chair of the Nominations Committee.

Amelious has a BS in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, an MA in Public Affairs from the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education, also from the University of Minnesota. Amelious is a vocal advocate in his professional and personal life for issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the University’s Equity Lens Policy Review Committee. In addition to his service to Clare, Amelious volunteers as the Educational Director for the International Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, chairs the Governor’s Residence Council, and serves on the board of the Friends of the University Libraries and the Weisman Art Museum. Amelious is also an Elections Judge for Minneapolis.
